With increasing demand for high-quality fly ash, SEFA develops forecast models to evaluate the estimated future demand for material.


The foundation of our Company is the willingness to serve. For over 40 years, SEFA has focused on providing a reliable supply of quality fly ash for the ready mix concrete industry. Throughout our history, we have also customized and added services that our utility or construction customers needed at the time. SEFA processes and markets environmentally sustainable products derived from fly ash for the concrete industry, recycling over 20 million tons of fly ash in the last 30 years. We are an integral part of some of the country’s most successful coal ash recycling programs. SEFA is making a positive impact for the future by cleaning up coal ash from ponds and removing it from the environment permanently.

40 Years Of Service

Tom and Jennie Hendrix started Southeastern Fly Ash Company (SEFA) at their kitchen table in Snellville, Georgia, in April 1976, with the goal to recycle fly ash for use in the construction industry. Tom and Jennie founded SEFA on the principles of integrity, honesty, service and hard work. These same principles remain the core foundation of SEFA today. The Company has grown steadily and diversified extensively with each successive decade since 1976 while maintaining its innovative, entrepreneurial spirit. As SEFA expanded to further contribute to customers’ success and environmental stewardship, services were added in transportation, construction, and engineering. Today, SEFA is composed of Fly Ash Sales and Operations, Engineering & Projects, SEFA Transportation, and SEFA Industrial Solutions.


SEFA has been making a positive difference by recycling coal combustion residuals into environmentally sustainable products for the concrete industry for over 40 years. SEFA also operates and maintains the proprietary thermal beneficiation process at STAR® facilities, which can transform coal ash from surface impoundments or ponds into a consistent, high-quality product for the concrete industry.


Our Advanced Technologies and Projects group is devoted to designing and implementing facilities using our patented STAR® Technology, which is the centerpiece of our emphasis on providing compelling value and quality to our utility partners and customers. The STAR® Process provides a permanent solution to coal ash problems by removing coal ash from the environment.


SEFA Transportation has over 20 years of experience, 30 million miles traveled, and 9 million tons delivered, and has won numerous awards for safety. SEFA Transportation has extensive experience in hauling multiple types of bulk aggregates, serving customers in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast regions.


SEFA Industrial Solutions works with utility, industrial, and manufacturing customers, providing customized solutions for production and process improvements. The group specializes in Process Engineering, Mechanical & Electrical Field Installation, Material Handling/Conveying, Electrical Control Systems, and Turnkey Project Management.

Leadership In Fly Ash Beneficiation

For four decades, The SEFA Group has been adept at stimulating innovation and new service offerings that can further contribute to customers’ success and environmental stewardship. Through SEFA’s determination, STAR® (Staged Turbulent Air Reactor) Technology was developed to provide the Company’s ready-mixed concrete customers an uninterrupted supply of recycled fly ash by utilizing and eliminating ash currently stored in impoundments. The heartbeat of SEFA is innovation, and the Company will continue to develop technologies, engineer processes, and invest in equipment that makes a positive environmental difference for the future.
