With the STAR® Process, coal ash is transformed into a high-quality, sustainable material for concrete, reducing the amount of other natural resources needed in construction. Since structures built with fly ash concrete will last longer, fewer resources will be depleted in the future. Using fly ash in this way exemplifies sustainable development.
STAR® Ash contributes environmental benefits to concrete producers and facility owners:
- Lower Greenhouse Gas emissions result from the reduction of demand for Portland cement. For every ton of fly ash used there is roughly a 1-ton reduction in CO2 emissions that otherwise result from the manufacture of Portland cement.
- Reduced use of virgin resources resulting from the reduced production of cement which requires the mining of limestone and shale.
